COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES

When the pandemic put a stop to gatherings, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission wanted to find a way for people to honour heroes without having to visit a cenotaph. This online experience let people name a star in the virtual night sky after any of the 1.7m fallen commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Rather than looking down in sorrow, we asked people to look up and remember. And by naming the stars in our night sky, we helped our heroes #ShineOn. We also installed searchlights at a number of key CWGC cemeteries, so even on a cloudy night people could look up and remember.
